It all began with one choice...the choice to stop settling for a life of brokenness, chaos, and dysfunction and start taking responsibility for my own happiness and success.
In May of 2014, I started a blog, this blog. It wasn’t anything fancy or elaborate, just a space for me to pursue my writing passion and share my messages with anyone interested in reading what I had to say. I wasn’t doing it to earn money or gain popularity, I just wanted to do something purposeful that fulfilled me. Getting out my innermost thoughts and feelings about life and relationships was really more therapeutic for me than anything. I never imagined that it would lead me down a path to discovering talents I didn’t know I had. I never expected that it would give me the freedom to do work that I enjoy full-time and connect me with women who would confirm my purpose and help me to realize the best parts of me.
The last 4 years of my life have been full of ups and downs, highs and lows, losses and wins, and lots of lessons learned. As I opened the @womenbychoice Instagram account today and saw that it had reached 100K followers, the first thing I noticed is that I didn’t feel the way I once thought I would about reaching this milestone. I’m grateful for the growth and progress this number represents, but over the years I’ve shifted from focusing less on quantity of followers and more on doing meaningful work and making a positive impact. It was necessary for me to make this shift in mindset once I saw that there were times when my self-esteem and productivity were negatively impacted by loss of followers or lack of likes. At one point, I completely lost sight of my “why”, my reason for building a platform on social media in the first place, which caused me to spend many days feeling discouraged and defeated. Now that I don’t associate my value and the worthiness of my content with number of followers or likes, I can show up authentically and produce quality content consistently, which are two major keys for achieving success.
I am aware that by reaching the 100K milestone, I am making those who believe in my vision proud and inspiring women who look like me to pursue their purpose also. That is what excites me most. My daily prayer is that I can be a vessel to show the underestimated, bullied, abandoned, broken, and rejected that they can rise above opposition, adversity, and lack of support from those closest to them and still win. Whether you’ve been following my journey from the very beginning or started following Women By Choice recently, thank you. If there’s one thing I want you to remember, it’s this...
It’s never too late to start over, take back control over your life, and put your broken pieces back together. You don't need to wait for everything to be perfect. Start where you are with what you have and grow from there. Show up every day in this world like you belong here because you do. Don’t be distracted or discouraged by those who don’t support you. No one can make you feel inadequate or worthless without your permission. Focus only on doing the best you can with the cards you’ve been dealt. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Be true to who you are because your authenticity will unlock doors to your highest good. Make self-improvement your priority and you will attract what's meant for you and release what never was. Treat people how you want to be treated regardless of how others treat you. Never stop believing in yourself. Be disciplined and consistent. If it’s not working, don’t be afraid to change or shift. Remind yourself of why you started daily. Always do your best even when you think no is watching. Growth is uncomfortable, but don’t let that limit you to your comfort zone. On the days when you can’t see how you can continue, find productive things to do, no matter how small or insignificant you think they may be. Keep sowing, your time is coming.
