Building With the Right Tribe of Women

As I prepare to travel to Dover, Delaware to deliver the keynote address at the Women’s Wellness and Business Conference this weekend, I am reflecting on all of the things I’ve learned over the years while building and growing Women by Choice. Being asked to speak on the importance of building with the right tribe of women is right on time as I have recently come to fully understand just how important it is. When I started Women by Choice, I had a vision that I naively thought all women would see, appreciate, and be in alignment with. When I talked about Women by Choice, I would say that the network is for all women, not realizing how untrue that was. Believing...

33 Choices Every Woman Should Make

In a few days, I will celebrate my 33rd birthday so I’ve been taking time to reflect over all that I’ve experienced and learned thus far. Perhaps one of the best lessons life has taught me is that my choices are what shape my life. Over the years, I can see how my relationships, health, career, and finances improved as my choices improved. Although every woman has different goals, these are 33 choices I think all women should make to be happier, healthier, and more successful in their lives and careers. Choose to love yourself more than your desire to be liked, accepted, or validated by others. Choose to do what you know is in your best interest even when...

Breaking Generational Curses

Life hasn’t always dealt me the best cards, but I refuse to become a hurt person who hurts people. For as long as I can remember, my family life has been dysfunctional. Raised by a father who pretty much raised himself after losing both of his parents by the age of 14 and a mother whose parents were emotionally unavailable to her, I grew up socially awkward, feeling lonely and misunderstood, unsure of myself, and abandoned at times. While I know now that my parents did the best they could based on their own experiences, I am committed to not allowing the hurt passed down to them from previous generations negatively impact me and potentially affect my future children. As...

4 Ways to Get & Stay Happy

I am happy. Those 3 words mean a lot to me because for many years, I couldn’t say it and mean it. It took me some time to fully understand what “happiness is a choice” really means and apply it to my life. Looking back, I can totally see why I spent many days unhappy, discouraged, and even depressed. I was choosing to be unhappy because I was making others responsible for my mood, attitude, and confidence level. I was constantly in my feelings over the actions of others, worried about what others would say about my decisions, and afraid of failing because I didn’t want to feel shame or embarrassment. I was creating my own personal hell by allowing...

Don't Complain, Use Your Brain

I realized some time ago that complaining is a complete waste of time. The time spent complaining about what you don’t have or what’s not going right could be better spent learning ways to fix your problems and improve your circumstances. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people that desire more for their lives, but can’t seem to obtain it because they lack accountability, focus, and discipline. The hard truth is, reaching your goals and getting to the next level won’t happen by doing what you’ve always done. Sometimes, you’re going to have to do things you don’t enjoy and go places that aren’t familiar. I have not reached all of my life goals nor am I where I want to...
