33 Choices Every Woman Should Make

In a few days, I will celebrate my 33rd birthday so I’ve been taking time to reflect over all that I’ve experienced and learned thus far. Perhaps one of the best lessons life has taught me is that my choices are what shape my life. Over the years, I can see how my relationships, health, career, and finances improved as my choices improved. Although every woman has different goals, these are 33 choices I think all women should make to be happier, healthier, and more successful in their lives and careers. Choose to love yourself more than your desire to be liked, accepted, or validated by others. Choose to do what you know is in your best interest even when...

LOVE IS A SUPERPOWER

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 When I would read this Bible verse as a bitter and broken person, I understood it to mean that I should protect myself from people to avoid being heartbroken. Reading it now as a whole and healed woman, I understand it to mean that I should be careful of allowing my heart to grow bitter from uncontrollable life experiences. I have a lot of reasons to be bitter, but I make the choice not to be. I can make plenty of excuses for avoiding connecting with new people and building new relationships, but I choose not to. I can be a hurt person who passes my hurt...

Me, Myself, and My Sisters

“Never depend on anyone but yourself.” I’m sure you’ve heard someone say that or maybe even your own life experiences have caused you to think those thoughts to yourself. I totally understand where people are coming from when they make that statement because I have been disappointed a lot in my life by people, so much that at some point I built up walls around my heart to keep people from getting close enough to hurt me. However, the thing I learned about walls is that they don’t only keep other people out, they hold you in. Those walls kept me from not only giving love, but receiving it also. They stopped me from giving support to others so I...

Keys to Becoming the Woman You Really Want to Be

Believe it or not, supporting and celebrating other women that look like me didn’t always come as naturally to me as it does now. I didn’t always understand why that was, but today I know that it’s due to a few things. One, I didn’t grow up with a close relationship to my mother. Our dysfunctional relationship and the disappointment I felt stemming from our relationship started me off with a negative perspective of other women. Secondly, I was bullied by girls that looked like me in elementary and high school. Also, as an adult, I’ve had my share of negative interactions with women from being ostracized to being betrayed. Those combined experiences caused me to put up walls to...

Take a Lickin' and Keep on Tickin'

Is it just me or does it seem like as soon as you think you have life all figured out or you set new goals, something inevitably occurs to distract and/or discourage you from continuing to move forward? Thankfully, I fully accepted a few years ago that I won’t always be able to control the circumstances around me, but I can always control how I react to them. One thing about growth is that it is often painful and if you aren’t prepared to be uncomfortable, you likely won’t elevate to the next level. Throughout my journey, life has literally whipped me into shape. My consistent ability to overcome my struggles and obstacles has taught me that I am much...
