This morning, I started my day at 6 AM to ensure that I had enough time to make this day as productive as possible. When my alarm went off, I didn’t lay in bed for 30 minutes to an hour checking my email and scrolling social media like I have so often in the past. Instead, I got right up and proceeded to complete my morning routine of prayer, meditation, and journaling. I finished just in time to make it to a 60 minute hot yoga session scheduled for 8:30 AM. Hot yoga is not something that’s normally in my daily routine, but I’m currently very focused on my health and one of my goals is to try new ways to be more healthy and fit. I found a Groupon for 10 hot yoga sessions for $50, purchased it, and made the commitment to go to every session before the voucher expires in 60 days. So, I went to hot yoga, got in a good stretch and sweat, and had a great experience - minus the couple of times I contemplated quietly packing up my mat and dipping out due to feeling like I was going to pass out. If you’ve never practiced yoga, I can tell you that it’s much harder than it looks and doing it in a room that feels like a sauna doesn’t make it any easier. However, I persevered and plan to go back tomorrow morning… no pain, no gain, right?
When I left hot yoga, I went to the gym and worked out for an hour and a half. I did some cardio, weight lifting, and ab exercises. Now, this is the point where some people start calling me crazy or saying that I’m “doing too much”. Well, I don’t care and I’m not. I’m just really determined to find out what the healthiest version of myself looks, feels, and lives like. I want to find out what people and opportunities the best version of me will attract. I enjoy pushing my limits and increasing my strength and endurance. Walking out of the gym, I could not have felt more proud of myself. I felt good mind, body, and spirit and that feeling is something I strive to experience on a daily basis.
After leaving the gym, I stopped at Wal Mart on my way home to pick up some self-care products (organic clay face mask, raw cocoa butter body lotion, charcoal teeth whitening toothpaste) and groceries to cook a healthy and delicious dinner. After getting home, taking my dog out, and showering, I made myself a cup of mango ginger tea and sat down to work on my Monday to-do list. Yup, as if I hadn’t done enough already today, I decided to get a head start on my work for the following day. Why? Because I want to free up more time to do the things that I want to do and give myself some breathing room just in case I run into any unexpected challenges during the week. Plus, my husband works on Sunday’s so the only other things I would be doing is watching television or scrolling social media, neither of which add much value to my life. I read also, but I plan to delve into You’re a Badass by Jen Sincero, the book I’m currently reading, after I take care of my Monday tasks. Reading, along with using my newly purchased self-care products, is how I will productively wind down and relax after a very full day.
I’m sharing this with you in hopes that it will help you to see that you might have more time than you think to do the things you need to do to become your best self. I am determined to make the most of my time as life is short, and I don’t want to waste any of it complaining about things that I can change and making excuses for why I’m not living my best life. I want to use every moment I am blessed with doing things that will in some way make me better. I know how stagnant and depressing life can get when you never make time to work on your personal development and refuse to make sacrifices to move your life forward. If you want the best, you have to give your best. There is just no way around it and there are truly no shortcuts to success.
Getting to the level of focus, discipline, and self-motivation that I’m on today required a total mindset shift. Everything that I accomplish, even when I’m tired or would much rather be doing something within my comfort zone, is due to my mindset. I will be teaching an online course called Become Your Best Self: Get Focused, Motivated, and Disciplined on September 25, 2019 to share more on shifting into a winning mindset with you. This course will include strategies to mange your time wisely, eliminate distractions, stay motivated, and more. To sign up, click here. I look forward to working and winning with you!
