I realized some time ago that complaining is a complete waste of time. The time spent complaining about what you don’t have or what’s not going right could be better spent learning ways to fix your problems and improve your circumstances. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people that desire more for their lives, but can’t seem to obtain it because they lack accountability, focus, and discipline. The hard truth is, reaching your goals and getting to the next level won’t happen by doing what you’ve always done. Sometimes, you’re going to have to do things you don’t enjoy and go places that aren’t familiar.
I have not reached all of my life goals nor am I where I want to be yet, but you can bet that every day I’m putting forth the effort to get there instead of blaming my past or others for what I lack. One of the best lessons life has taught me is that my past can only impact my present and future as much as I allow it to. Like many other women, I’ve had traumatic experiences, setbacks, and plans not go as I expected them to, but I make the choice not to let any of my past disappointments hinder my growth and progress. Instead of allowing myself to dwell in pity and sorrow, I choose to use my pain and frustration to motivate me to get to a position where I’ll never have to feel that way again.
The road to achieving success, reaching your full potential, and living your best life is far from easy. It will require you to stretch and get uncomfortable over and over again. It doesn’t necessarily get easier as you get older either. As a child I loved to read and learn new things. As an adult with bills and responsibilities, I much more enjoy relaxing and doing nothing. However, I know that sitting around watching tv or scrolling social media won’t earn me more money, improve my health, or make me feel better about myself and where my life is headed. As difficult as it is for me to choose education over relaxation and entertainment on some days, I do it because I don’t want to look back a year from now and still be in the same place complaining about the same things. I have made it a requirement to do things daily that will move my life forward. I push myself to make my present and future self proud.
If you want to see growth and progress in your life, being focused, disciplined, and productive should be your daily goal. Here are some ways to have more productive days:
- Make a list of your goals and get clear about what it will take from you to manifest the life you want to live. Update as necessary.
- Evaluate how you’re spending your time and eliminate any activities that aren’t adding value to you. Ask yourself if doing that thing is going to get you closer to your dreams. If not, don’t do it.
- Create a schedule for your day in order to ensure that you’re making the most of your time and hold yourself accountable for sticking to the schedule. No excuses.
- Make it a priority to learn something new every day. Knowledge is power and the more you know, the more you’ll grow. You are only limited by what your mind perceives and believes that you can do. Increased knowledge equals increased confidence. The biggest barrier to your success is not knowing what move to make next. Once you have the key, you’ll be able to unlock the door easily.
