After the year I've had, I am totally and completely excited about the possibilities that 2018 will bring. I have accomplished things that I never imagined I would. I have completed goals far quicker than I estimated. Even with the natural ups and downs and growing pains I experienced, I can say that I have truly been living a blessed and purposeful life. Even though I am excited about 2018, I can also admit that I am scared as hell. For the first time since becoming an entrepreneur, I am feeling real fear. I am not talking the nerves I feel before getting on stage to speak or the anxiety I feel when planning an event. I am talking fear, crippling fear. Fear that makes me try to convince myself that I have done enough and can sit down now. Fear that makes me want to quit now that the stakes have gotten higher.
I recognize that I feel this fear because this year was truly amazing and as an ambitious, goal-driven woman, I now have to make 2018 even better. Well, I don't have to, but I want to. My ultimate goal in life is to keep getting better until I transpire. I want to reach my full potential. I don't want to leave this Earth knowing I could have been more or done more. I don't want to die with regrets. Is my desire to reach my goals and manifest my visions going to be enough for me to overcome fear? Honestly, I can't say for sure that it always will be. I'm human and every day I make the choice to succumb to my emotions or push through them for the greater good. I would be lying if I said that every single day the greater good wins, but the way my mind is set-up these days, I am pretty confident that when faced with the choice to fail because of fear or win while terrified, I will always choose to win.
I am choosing not to allow fear to get the best of me. These are 3 things that I do and recommend that my coaching clients do to overcome fear:
1. Acknowledge that it's fear. If you can't be honest with yourself, who can you be honest with? Get in tune with yourself and in touch with your emotions. Sometimes fear disguises itself as other things so when things start getting uncomfortable while in pursuit of greater, pause and determine where the discomfort is stemming from.
2. Ask yourself why you feel fear. Is it a good reason or an excuse you're creating to stay in your comfort zone? Get to the root of it so that you can deal with it and reach your goals. Maybe it's not as serious as it feels. Maybe it's all in your head and there is no real threat.
3. Take action. You know what you need to do now just do it. Sometimes you just have to get out of your head and force your feelings to take a backseat. Sometimes you just need to turn on your tunnel vision and be as focused and determined about reaching your goals like the Terminator was about finding Sarah Conner. Remind yourself of where you'd like to be in the future and what you need to do to get from Point A to Point B. Give yourself a pep talk or listen to a motivational speech that will boost your confidence and shift your mindset.
