Nipsey Hussle: Legacy Goals

As a woman who spends my days working to empower women, I didn’t expect to find myself feeling devastated by the loss of a man that I never met or knew much about. When I was scrolling social media last night and came across a post with the headline, “Nipsey Hussle Has Passed Away After Being Fatally Shot”, I immediately felt sick to my stomach. I couldn’t believe what I was reading and felt hurt enough tear up. Now, I wasn’t his biggest fan nor did I ever listen to his music so part of me was confused about why I felt so strongly about his passing. I mean, as unfortunate as it is, hearing that another black man got...

Winning the Fight For Sisterhood

Can I keep it real, sis? I’m a woman and I love us for real, but too many of us make it difficult for others to genuinely love and support us. This is why I really stress the importance of making sure that we get our minds right and heal completely from past painful and traumatic experiences.  Recently, I really considered giving up on my mission to unite and empower women through Women by Choice because I got tired of dealing with women. Not all women, but enough to skew my perspective on whether fighting for sisterhood and unity among women is still worth my time, energy, and sacrifices. Just Keeping It Real

Over the last 3 days, I had the opportunity to both share my story and listen to the stories of 14 other women through Women by Choice Global's first virtual event, Sisters Sharing Stories, and it was an amazing experience. I ended each day with a full heart and feeling more connected to my sisters. If nothing else, it was more confirmation for me that I need to create and participate in more experiences like this. I came up with the idea for this event because my soul craves more genuine and honest interactions between women. Living in a society where interacting on social media has become the new normal in regards to human relations, I am personally over having...

Mental Health > Money

This past weekend, I got the chance to sit down and watch Whitney, a documentary film that was released in 2018 about the legendary Whitney Houston. Watching this documentary left me with so many emotions, mainly sadness that such an amazing woman with such a divine gift left the world at such a young age without receiving the healing she needed to leave the legacy she had the potential to. What stood out to me most, beyond the fact that she undoubtedly had the greatest voice this world has ever heard, was that in a world where so many think that fame and money will make them happy, those two things seemed to be the biggest factors that hastened Whitney’s...

5 Ways to Increase Peace and Decrease Stress

I’m noticing that the older I get, the more I’m making peace a priority. I’ve learned that while there are definitely outside forces that can impact my stress level (if I allow it to), a lot of stress can be avoided by making better choices and being more intentional about how I spend my time and energy. I started this year with two resolutions: 1) Do the best that I can in all things and 2) Surrender to God’s will. Committing to my New Years resolutions has increased my productivity and peace while simultaneously decreased my stress and confusion.  Continuously striving for self-improvement has allowed me to discover better versions of myself and achieve greater success in all areas of...
